Cost Share Opportunities: Lexicon Work Session and Lexicon Alpha Testing

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a not-for-profit organization that works to serve diverse global communities by advancing, disseminating and applying engineering knowledge for improving the quality of life; and communicating the excitement of engineering. ARMI | BioFabUSA is thrilled to announce that it has partnered with ASME to provide two cost share opportunities for members of the ARMI | BioFabUSA ecosystem to take advantage of!

LEXICON WORKSHOP

In an effort to propel the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (TERM) industry further, ARMI | BioFabUSA is supporting the Alliance of Advanced Biomedical Engineering (AABME), ASME’s bioengineering initiative, to improve interdisciplinary communication. ARMI | BioFabUSA will work to inform, contribute, and launch AABME’s Bioengineering Lexicon in 2019.

On December 6th, 2018 in New York City, ASME will be hosting a “Tissue Engineering Lexicon Work Session,” which will work to level set the TERM terminology and lexicon to build a common language that members of the tissue engineering community will use. The session will bring together the TERM industry and academic experts to determine fundamental definitions in order to overcome potential areas of miscommunication within multidisciplinary teams. Activities will include large group discussions to achieve consensus as well as breakout group work in order to define terms and concepts, articulating the nuances in meaning and explaining how miscommunication currently occurs.

As members of the ARMI | BioFabUSA ecosystem, the time spent at this work session as well as associated travel and lodging can constitute as cost share for your membership. For more information on this event and to register, click here!

AABME BIO LEXICON ALPHA TESTING

AABME and ASME have also been working to develop the AABME Bio Lexicon, which is a tool that captures and more clearly defines similar terms that may have different meanings based on the industry in which they are utilized. This tool will be made available among engineers, clinicians and scientists and will allow for enhanced communication within multi-disciplinary teams by refining definitions of commonly used terms. The AABME Bio Lexicon goes beyond definitions in order to provide greater explanation around thought and process understanding, as well as the scientific and comprehensive usage of terms by providing definitions, images, and additional supporting content where appropriate.

TERM is a hub of interdisciplinary efforts and therefore ARMI | BioFabUSA fully supports this effort. Members of the ARMI | BioFabUSA ecosystem are encouraged to assist ASME by completing an alpha test on a portion of the AABME Bio Lexicon. Testing will consist of reviewing, making and tracking changes to the AABME Bio Lexicon document or providing overall written feedback. Each participant will be able to connect, review and update the AABME Bio Lexicon at any time during the scheduled test period. The test period is set to start on November 6th, with complete feedback due on November 28th. These comments and recommendations will be considered and utilized during the December 6th “Tissue Engineering Lexicon Work Session” mentioned above which is focused completely on TERM specific vocabulary.

As members of the ARMI | BioFabUSA ecosystem, time spent on the alpha testing of the AABME Bio Lexicon can be constituted as cost share! For more information, and to take advantage of these cost share opportunities please contact Lexi Garcia at lgarcia@armiusa.org. Effective communication is a keystone toward collective progress – together lets eliminate a current obstacle to the industry’s success!
