ARMI | BioFabUSA would like to share an opportunity that is being provided by one of its members, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). At 11:00 AM EST on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019, ASME will be offering a free webinar titled, “Accelerated Medical Device Testing for Fatigue Failure: Current Technology and Challenges.”
Fatigue failure is a possible failure mode for any product that experiences cyclic loading. Although it is a common concern in product design, fatigue failure is particularly insidious in implantable medical devices where a fatigue fracture may have lethal clinical consequences. Some mechanical failures of implantable medical devices have been difficult to predict outside of pre-clinical use, or even human use, because in vivo device loading is highly dynamic, kinematically complex, and stochastic.
Learn more in this webinar featuring Thomas Secord, University of St. Thomas, and previously of Medtronic. Dr. Secord’s work has addressed many aspects of structural design, accelerated testing, and regulatory considerations for implantable devices.
This webinar will:
- Discuss the basic aspects of accelerated fatigue testing of medical devices and review mechanical modes of failure.
- Review the state of the art in test machine technology and highlight its current shortcoming.
- Provide an overview of the relevant statistical methodologies for fatigue testing and common pitfalls in their application.
