Dr. Melanie Matheu, PhD is a passionate research scientist turned entrepreneur with cross-disciplinary experience in Immunology, Chemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, and Protein engineering. Dr. Matheu received her PhD in the department of Physiology and Biophysics from the University of California, Irvine where she pioneered imaging of immune responses in peripheral tissues including lung, spinal cord, skin, joints, as well as lymph nodes and spleen. During her career she independently designed experimental protocols for experimental and pre-clinical studies, small animal surgical methods, and worked extensively in microscope build, maintenance, small part prototype design and build for the purpose of developing novel multi-photon imaging methods. Dr. Matheu is the founder and CEO of Prellis Biologics, Inc. A human tissue engineering company that has developed a novel ultra-fast method of laser printing biocompatible scaffolds and capillary laden tissues, solving the last major technical hurdle in human tissue engineering.
