BioTrek – Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO)

BioTrek is a week-long, in-person Extended Learning Opportunity designed for high school students interested in careers at the intersection of science, engineering, and healthcare. Hosted by ARMI | BioFabUSA, this immersive program introduces students to biomanufacturing, tissue engineering, and entrepreneurship through hands-on, team-based learning.

Participants work in small teams to tackle real-world challenges facing regenerative medicine. Guided by industry and academic mentors, students gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies while building practical skills in research, problem-solving, and innovation.

Students can earn 0.5 High School Career Exploration Credits by completing the program.

What Students Will Do

During the week, student teams will:

• Research a real-world medical problem
• Conceptualize a tissue-engineered solution
• Develop a basic business model
• Pitch their idea to a panel of representatives

The winning team will be invited to compete in ARMI’s annual BioTrek Championship School Competition.

Format: Week-long, in-person
Dates: Monday–Friday
Daily Time: 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Location: ARMI | BioFabUSA, 500 North Commercial Street, Manchester, NH

Who Should Apply

• High school students interested in STEM, healthcare, engineering, or entrepreneurship
• Students curious about next-generation medical technologies
• Learners looking for hands-on, team-based project experience

No prior laboratory experience is required.
